Enrichment Program
The SJCS Enrichment Program applies a cross curricular approach to help students strengthen their natural abilities through a variety of STEM-based topics and activities.
First through fourth grade students are selected to participate in the program based on teacher recommendations, MAP scores, class grades, and excellent conduct reports. They meet twice a week for thirty minutes during school hours. The students do not receive homework or a letter grade. Some units will be collaborative; others will give the students an opportunity for individual study. Students in the Enrichment Program will be exposed to lessons that will challenge them in vocabulary building, spatial visualization, innovation, critical thinking and problem solving. Some of the lessons focus on simple coding, Lego WeDo, forensic science, concepts of biomimicry, strategic educational games, creative writing and 3D printing using Tinkercad.
Another source of enrichment for SJCS middle school students is the Jump STEM Program. Students participate in activities during the school day, as well as taking field trips to the Jump Trading Simulation & Education Center. This program is available to all students in sixth through eighth grades.
